Villarreal - Barcelona won an important victory over Villarreal. These three figures are a big step for Ronald Koeman's troops to get closer to the LaLiga title.
Barcelona won 2-1 when they visited Villarreal's headquarters, Estadio de la Ceramica, in the Spanish League continued on Sunday (25/4/2021) evening WIB. The visitors fell behind first due to Samuel Chukwueze's goal. They then got up through Antoine Griezmann's brace.
These three numbers are considered crucial for Barcelona in the competition for the Spanish League title. The victory over Villarreal came when Blaugrana's two main rivals, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, failed to earn full points this week.
Atletico Madrid defeated 1-2 at home to Athletic Bilbao. Meanwhile, Madrid was held 1-1 by Real Betis at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.
Barcelona is currently still in third place with 71 points. Their points are the same as Madrid in second place and two points behind Atletico at the top of the standings.
However, they have the opportunity to shoot to the top of the standings displacing the Madrid duo. The reason is, Barcelona still has one game postponed.
Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman acknowledged that the victory over Villarreal was very important in their mission to win the LaLiga title this season. The team from Catalonia is now determined to wipe out the remaining six matches to become champions.
Even so, Koeman also emphasized that this would not be easy. Moreover, Lionel Messi et al still have to meet Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou in the next three weeks.
"This is a big step towards the title. Every win is a step in the right direction because every match is difficult," Koeman was quoted as saying by Marca.
"We reacted well when we fell behind and created chances. We were exhausted at the last minute, but we defended well."
"We know that with six games left if we win all six, we will be champions. However, I think our opponents will make life difficult."
"We still have to fight Atletico. There is still a long way to go, but we will give everything to try to win," said the man from the Netherlands, adding, about Barcelona's future matches.
