Red Bull Racing suspends junior driver Juri Vips after racist slur on live gaming stream
Red Bull Racing has suspended junior driver Juri Vips after he used a racial slur during a live gaming stream on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old, who has since apologized for the incident, was relieved of all team duties with immediate effect pending a full investigation, Red Bull said in a statement.
"As an organisation we condemn abuse of any kind and have a zero-tolerance policy to racist language or behaviour within our organisation," it added.
Vips, who is racing in Formula 2 this season, admitted the language used was "entirely unacceptable" in a post on his personal Instagram account on Tuesday.
"I wish to unreservedly apologise for the offensive language used during a live gaming stream earlier today," Vips wrote.
"This language is entirely unacceptable and does not portray the values and principles that I hold.
"I deeply regret my actions and this is not the example I wish to set. I will cooperate with the investigation fully."
The Estonian currently races with the British-based Hitech GP team and sits seventh in the Formula 2 standings.
Earlier this year, he replaced Sergio Pérez to drive Red Bull's F1 car in a practice session ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.
Red Bull Racing has suspended junior driver Juri Vips after the 21-year-old used the n-word this week while playing "Call of Duty" on a live stream.

The driver -- who's racing in Formula 2 this year -- was gaming on Twitch with another driver when microphones caught him abruptly using the racial slur.

On Tuesday, Red Bull Racing announced its suspended Vips "from all team duties" over the language ... saying an investigation is ongoing.

"As an organization, we condemn abuse of any kind," the Red Bull Racing team said in a statement, "and have a zero-tolerance policy to racist language or behaviors within our organization.”

Vips released an apology on his Instagram page shortly after the suspension was announced -- saying what he did was "unacceptable."

"I wish to unreservedly apologize for the offensive language used during a live gaming stream earlier today," Vips said.

"This language is entirely unacceptable and does not portray the values and principles that I hold. I deeply regret my actions and this is not the example I wish to set."

The Estonian driver -- who won the 2017 ADAC Formula championship -- had been sitting 7th in the Formula 2 standings this season.

Of course, Vips is sadly not the first driver to mutter offensive language while streaming ... NASCAR star Kyle Larson infamously used the n-word during an iRacing event back in 2020 and was fired from his racing team over it all.

Red Bull Racing have suspended Formula Two driver Juri Vips pending an investigation after the Estonian used a racial slur during a live stream, the team announced on Tuesday.

"Red Bull Racing has suspended junior driver Juri Vips from all team duties with immediate effect, pending a full investigation into the incident," it said.

"As an organisation we condemn abuse of any kind and have a zero-tolerance policy to racist language or behaviour within our organisation."

Vips, 21, later apologised in a message posted to Instagram and said he would fully cooperate with the investigation.

"I wish to unreservedly apologize for the offensive language used during a live gaming stream earlier today," he wrote.

"This language is entirely unacceptable and does not portray the values and principles that I hold. I deeply regret my actions and this is not the example I wish to set."

Vips, who drives for the British-based Hitech Grand Prix team in Formula Two, is seventh in the standings.

Last month he drove Red Bull's Formula One car during Friday's practice ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.

The 21-year-old from Estonia is a reserve driver for the 2022 season with Red Bull and is next in line after 2021 world champion Max Verstappen and his teammate Sergio Perez. Having driven in practice sessions for the team and touted as a star in waiting, his future is now in doubt.

Vips was suspended after he was heard using the N-word while playing Warzone with fellow Red Bull junior Liam Lawson who was streaming on Twitch. Not long after this came to light, Red Bull Racing was quick to take action and put out the following statement: "Red Bull Racing has suspended junior driver Juri Vips from all team duties with immediate effect, pending a full investigation into the incident. As an organisation we condemn abuse of any kind and have a zero-tolerance policy to racist language or behaviour within our organisation".

An additional clip shows Juri calling a Red Bull hat "gay" on livestream as he was invited to wear the hat which is pink coloured. "Juri, you can't say that", the livestreamer says to him, after which Juri responds: "Yeah, well I did". Both these incidents have been captured and posted on to Twitter here and here.

Vips posted a statement to his Instagram feed yesterday, apologising for what he said. His statement reads: "I wish to unreservedly apologize for the offensive language used during a live gaming stream earlier today. This language is entirely unacceptable and does not portray the values and principles that I hold. I deeply regret my actions and this is not the example I wish to set. I will cooperate with the investigation fully.”

His teammate Lawson has not commented on the incident publicly. No timeframe has been provided yet by Red Bull Racing for the investigation.
