While the likes of Assassin's Creed and the Hitman games reboot are considered the stealth titles of choice around this time, there was a time when Splinter Cell reigned supreme, especially in the early 2000s. Several of the installments of the franchises are there as some of the most beloved stealth and spy games ever made. Sadly, the series has waned over the years, but hope is on the horizon as it looks like Sam Fisher might be making a comeback. Having said that, some people don't seem overly optimistic about it.

With very recent news that a new Splinter Cell is rumored to be in development, Ubisoft appears to be trying to make the franchise relevant again. Many would be forgiven for thinking that this would stir up the fanbase, causing untold excitement as a new installment grows ever closer to being a reality after several years of inactivity. But that does not seem to be the case for many, who have expressed somewhat pessimistic, even indifferent, opinions about the announcement via Twitter. A quick search on the social media site for anything related to Splinter Cell will return a number of results. Mixed in with the news, there are a number of comments on the subject, and some people don't quite believe it.

One person said they would only believe the ad when they "had a controller" in their hands and were actually playing it. A couple of others have expressed dissatisfaction that Ubisoft is handling the game, feeling that it would only incorporate the stealth mechanics of modern games like Far Cry 6, rather than making a return to what made the old Splinter Cell games special. Another user said they were "happy and concerned" and added that they were happy that it was a new Splinter Cell game, but were concerned that Ubisoft was in command.

Others still seem to agree, saying that the developer is more interested in open-world and multiplayer titles, rather than stealth games with deep storylines. The consensus suggests that even those who are happy with the announcement are not looking to get their hopes up. Either the news is still incredible, or the fanbase is unsure that Ubisoft can successfully follow up on Blacklist. With the latest Splinter Cell game released over 3,000 days ago, it's a franchise that's long overdue. However, the studio will apparently have to do a lot to convince people that a new game is something to be excited about.
